One morning we came upon five pronghorn in a meadow. This was as close as I got. It brought my count to 8 so far. They're amazing animals and quick as the wind.
We met Messed Up, a nice guy who is tackling the CDT as his first thru-hike. He's an avid hiker and outdoorsman so not his first rodeo.
Getting water and taking a break with Burly, Malarky, Lala, Day Man and for the first time we met G-Funk, from Austria.
Messed Up, Delightful & G-Funk.
Found a car.
Found a trampoline!
Got some snow on the way down from Manges Peak (~11,000 ft.).
Epic pie party at the Pie-O-Neer Cafe in Pie Town. My good friend Lighthouse called ahead and arranged to have the owner, Kathy make me a gluten-free pie crust. We spent most of the morning meeting locals and stuffing ourselves with freshly baked pie and ice cream...it's a special place. (Thanks again, James!)
Peru is the sweetest hiker/trail angel/volunteer ever... She fed us at the Toaster House the day before and then threw on an apron to lend a hand at the Pie-O-Neer. She's also out section hiking all summer. We're lucky to have her out here with us!
Kathy and her staff sing and play music at the cafe whenever they have the time. These people know a thing or two about living.
Lionheart caught up to us and also bumped into old PCT friends from Albuquerque who drove out to treat is to a feast of trail magic! Thanks, Paul Bunyan!
