The first day we leapfrogged off and on with our starting group: Banana Pants, Bigfoot, Cousin T, Burly, Malarky, Lia, Nightcrawler, Delightful and myself. The trail was surprisingly well marked and easy to follow. The weather was cool with a strong wind. Day two was tougher, through ocotillo cactus and rocky slopes full of everything thorny God has ever made...still very beautiful. We cowboy camped both nights then woke to a sprinkle day three, which promptly turned to a chilly squall that lasted through the morning. We chose to push through it and eventually it died down and the sun returned. Day four we chose our own route and wandered through the hills, exploring the country side and enjoying not seeing anyone or any other footprints. This was the CDT we had been dreaming of.
We met Peru, who was hiking ahead but took a break to help stock water caches. Also met a guy named Rafiki, striking a good pose below.
Nightcrawler was super into collecting bones...good thing we already have trail names...
Then back to Lordsburg for pizza and a good night's rest. Happy Birthday to Nightcrawler and Shane as well!
